Fusion Pressing
Industrial Applications for Garment Manufacturing
In garment manufacturing, many products require an interlining material to provide structure and stiffness. Common examples include shirt collars, blouse lapels, and suit jackets.
A typical shirt collar construction consists of three layers: an outer cotton fabric, a heat-sensitive non-woven interlining (impregnated with resin), and another cotton fabric layer. This layered structure undergoes a controlled heat and pressure process where the interlining melts and fuses with the cotton layers. Once cooled, the resulting material achieves the desired stiffness and shape retention.

Industrial Manufacturing Process
In industrial applications, the layered material travels on a conveyor belt over heating elements. A second belt, running parallel above the material, creates pressure as the layers pass through specialised calendar rollers.
Precise control of pressure and heating cycles ensures optimal fusion results, allowing the resin-impregnated interlining to reach its ideal bonding state. To maintain consistent quality and prevent adhesion issues, manufacturers exclusively use non-stick, conductive PTFE-coated fiberglass belts for this application.
GORTEF Solutions
For delicate fashion fabrics, we recommend our premium 0.25mm (0.010 inch) thick conductive GORTEF 828.25AS belt. For heavier materials such as waistbands, suits, and overcoats, the more robust GORTEF 141.36AS is the optimal choice.
While European manufacturers produce large-scale machines with belts up to 9.2m x 1.9m (typically serviced by OEMs), numerous European and Japanese manufacturers create smaller machines that use standard PTFE-coated fiberglass belts. These machines allow end-users to source belts directly from specialised manufacturers like GORTEF.
